I now head back to work after a 7 month break. And what a break! I’ve done everything I dreamed of doing: travelling, walking part of the Camino, hanging out with loved ones, spending time outdoors, reading, writing, learning new things, working out to my heart’s content, doing yoga. It’s been simply wonderful. The best

Writing is a favourite pastime for me. I find it relaxing and meditative to write. I hope you enjoy reading my assorted musings.
Plant-based eating – so much flavour
Not one for wasting time, I started my plant-based eating right after the last post. I’ve now done 2 weeks of this new way of eating. Overall, it’s been a lot easier than I had thought. I’m having a lot of fun creating new dishes. I’m eating well, and I’m never hungry. And I'm loving
Maple Pecan overnight oatmeal
Time to fess up. I do not like oatmeal. At all. But, I have high cholesterol and my doctor has been on my case for years to eat oatmeal. A couple of years ago, I saw a recipe for overnight oatmeal. People seemed to love the stuff, so I decided to make a batch and
When life gives you lemons, maybe consider a plant based diet?
For my first blog of the year, I had started to write about my happiness jar. It was an uplifting post about the importance of recognizing the good things in our lives. More on that later. Then, I got a call from my doctor’s office to discuss some test results. Oh, ok. That's typically not a good
Gratitude and change
As the year winds down, I feel compelled to write about gratitude and change. Gratitude for the kindness, encouragement and new friendships I made this year. I’m humbled by the positive reaction to my little blog. Thank you. I read every comment and each one touches me. I am so incredibly grateful to have shared my
Day 7 – The Camino comes to an end
The day started early, way too early for me. At 5:30 am, my next door neighbours noisily packed up and hit the trail! Who does that? Maybe they wanted to make it to Santiago and get one of the 10 free breakfasts offered at the Parador de Santiago de Compostela. This beautifully restored building was
Day 6 – a bittersweet day
How bittersweet. The second to last day of the Camino. I have a lot of mixed emotions today. Yes, I’m anxious to finish the Camino so I can take care of my feet. But, I also wish I had extra time to walk. This has been such an amazing experience. From the wonderful people I’ve
Day 5 – The Camino works its magic
Day 5 was by far an easier day. Since I was 6 kms closer to my destination, I got a later start. I needed the rest because I was exhausted. There weren’t nearly as many hills on day 5, although it rained again. But, by this point, the rain didn’t bother me too much. Having
Day 4: so many hills
Ah those hills! This was a hilly day. A very hilly day. The day did not start well because I slept so poorly. After the previous day's rain which gave me the nasty blisters, my feet were very sore. To add to my woes, the hotel in Portomarin was the only one that I’d consider
Day 3 – So much rain, so many blisters! Sarria to Portomarin
A rainy start to the day Before my alarm went off, I could hear the rain. Good, I thought. Let it rain overnight and then it won’t rain tomorrow! Oh, how naive I was! When I woke up, it was still raining hard. My feet really hurt this morning. I went downstairs for breakfast. I
